Step into a super summer of sport in Salford

14th August 2018

Families are set for a super summer of free sports activities as Salford Shopping Centre challenges them to take one million steps.

Taking place every Thursday from the 16th-30th August, from 11am to 4pm, families will be able to enjoy a free Summer Festival of Fun at Salford Shopping Centre and put their skills to the test by trying out a new sport each week.

The activities will launch in style on the 16th with demonstrations of amazing basketball skills followed by workshops giving families the chance to give them a go.

In between the workshops, families can go head to head in giant jenga, connect4 and hoola hoop challenges for the chance to win a prize before donning a step-o-meter to track the number of steps they make during their visit to the centre.

As part of the centres one million steps challenge, which equates to 500 miles – the equivalent of walking from Salford to Paris; each family’s steps will help towards reaching a grand total of one million steps over the three weeks, with all participating children receiving a certificate for their efforts.

The next weeks will follow with even more fun, on Thursday, 23rd August, families can take a shot at Mini Golf by scoring a hole in one and on Thursday 30th August it’s time to get in the spirit of going back to school with a traditional Sports Day!

Nick Pitt, Salford Shopping Centre Manager said “We are really looking forward to inviting families to join us for the Summer Festival of Fun over the next three weeks. It’s a great chance to try out a new sport, get active and keep the kids entertained for free during the summer holidays.”
