3 Ways to Wear Stripes: Peacocks

31st March 2016

Stripes are an absolute staple. They’ve been a wardrobe must-have since forever and they go with so many different clothing combinations.

Whether you’re a stripeoholic who can’t stop adding different styles to your basket, a wannabe Parisian or a stripe-o-phobe who believes that horizontal lines add 10 pounds to the waistline, Peacocks show you 3 different ways to rock the look in this week’s blog:

#1 Off-Duty Stripey

Fridays in the office, coffee shop catch-ups, dinner at a friend’s house; the off-duty stripe top was made for these occasions. It’s the kind of garment you can throw on without worrying about bra strap lines, ruffles or any of that nonsense. Team with your comfiest pair of jeans and a necklace if you’re feeling fancy. Footwear wise, it has to be the classic ballerina pump.

#2 Cape Cool

When the cape first came on the scene it was one of those trends that made people exclaim “really?” After all, it’s the sort of garment that’s stereotypically worn for Mexican fancy dress and donned by hippyish festival goers. However, after a couple of years in the limelight the cape has become de riguer.

Alexa Chung, Taylor Swift and Victoria Beckham are regularly spotted in one, proof of its place in the fashion chart. Team yours with black skinnies and boots and don’t forget to wear a long-sleeved top underneath as it can get quite breezy on the old arms.

#3 The Whole Shebang

If you’ve got qualms about wearing horizontal stripes because you think they make you look wider, you may be more inclined to try a vertical stripe. As a general rule though, it’s only the super thick stripes that give the optical illusion of largeness. Narrow stripes that are close together can pull the waist in and look super chic.

A black and white striped dress puts a contemporary spin on the plain day dress and can be worn in the day or dressed up with heels for the evening. Choose unusual features such as an asymmetrical hem or a Bardot neckline to be bang on trend this spring.
