Brighten your home this spring – PerfectHome

20th April 2016

Spring is here and, after a rather dreary and drizzly winter, we’re delighted to see some warm weather on the horizon and the prospect of sitting in the garden without turning blue!

The new season also heralds the time to give your home some TLC. PerfectHome at Salford Shopping Centre have put together a list of their four top tips for getting your home ship shape for the brighter days ahead.

Clean Windows

The winter months really take their toll on your windows, and now that the sun is shining more regularly, it’s much harder to ignore dust, dirt and streaks. If you don’t have a regular window cleaner, you can do the job yourself easily enough.

Grab a bucket, warm water, a good quality detergent and cloths, and get to work! You could even invest in a squeegee: they’re extremely reasonably priced and are the key to avoiding a streaky finish.

Of course, you should only attempt first floor windows if you’re confident on a ladder and have someone to support you – if not, you’re best off sticking to the ground floor and waiting for a professional to do upstairs!

Flip Your Mattress

Yes, it’s true – turning your mattress several times a year will help increase its lifespan and makes for a much more comfortable night’s sleep. Most of us sleep in exactly the same place, so it’s unsurprising that they eventually compress to our forms and wear unevenly.

By flipping, your mattress will have the chance to come back into shape, and you’ll have a brand new spot to snooze in! Flipping also gives you the opportunity to blitz your mattress with the vacuum cleaner, getting rid of any dust and dirt.

Declutter

Hoarders beware, it’s time to have a clear out! Though the task itself isn’t exactly appealing, there’s nothing better than having a clean, tidy house for the spring. The best way to approach a total house declutter is to take it one room at a time.

Be firm with yourself when deciding what to keep, what to donate and what to throw away for good – a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself: Have I used this recently? Can I see myself using it this week? Does it have a lot of value? If your answer is a resounding ‘No!’, then it’s time to get rid.

Treat Yourself

Now that your home is spick and span, it’s time to relax and enjoy it. One of the best parts of spring cleaning is being able to treat yourself afterwards, especially if you discovered a fair amount of loose change during your declutter session!

Highlight your newly tidy rooms by investing in some new soft furnishings, accessories or pieces of art. You could also take a look at PerfectHomes’ selection of occasionals which boasts a great range of stylish coffee tables and lamps.
