You will need:

  • Plant pots or troughs
  • Compost
  • Seeds
  • Water
  • Sunshine

What to do:

  • Most herbs love sunshine so find a sunny spot in the garden
  • Fill your pots almost full of compost
  • Plant your seeds according to the instructions on your particular seed pack. This will give you the best possible results
  • Give them a good watering
  • Label up your seeds

… and wait!

Top Tip

If you are planting different herbs in the same pot avoid mixing ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ herbs together. This will make it easier to manage the best conditions for your herbs to flourish. Here’s the difference:

Wet herbs grow best in moist to wet soil, these varieties include:

Peppermint, chervil, thyme, lemon grass, lemon balm, watercress and sorrel.

Dry herbs prefer well drained soil and include:
Lavender, rosemary, basil, oregano, dill, sage, parsley, tarragon and coriander.

Enjoy Throughout the Year

Once you have reaped your abundance of herbs, you can preserve them to use throughout the year by chopping them up, popping them into an ice cube tray and simply topping up with olive oil or water. You will have perfectly portioned herbs on hand to use without any hassle at all. Perfect!
